Where I stayed
The Yak Hotel, Manang
What I did
Feeling a bit emotional, teary. End of period stuff, is all. We've found somewhere that shows movies so we're going to go and chill out there at 2pm and eat our sardines and bikkies. Early night tonight - off to Yak Kharka in the morning. We'll go and visit Ziv and Yael at The Manang Hotel after dinner though. There are a couple of walks and side-trips you can do from Manang, ranging from a day to 3-4 days round trip. Tilicho Lake would be stunning; it's the highest Lake in the world.
If you're staying somewhere for more than a night it's a great opportunity to see if there's somewhere to walk up a couple of hundred metres then back down again, for acclimatisation
We've just ordered our dinner - Ziv and Yael made a quick getaway after coming up to exchange e-mails and hearing that it's one of the Israeli girls' birthday.....Ziv said that "soon, lots of noise....we go" and they cleared off! We walked down to their hotel about 2pm to see if they wanted to come to the Cultural Museum with us. We disturbed their rest, but they came with us anyway.
They are a lot of fun - Ziv is very funny and Yael gets self-concsious when Ziv compliments her or talks about her achievements. The museum was set out as a traditional Nepali home but with more things on the walls. After the museum - oh, there were amazing, old thanka's in the prayer room, and a semi-stuffed yak on the ground floor where the animals would be housed in winter. So, after that we went up to see about watching a video at the 'cinema' and decided we'd watch Touching The Void, starting at 4pm. We all went to a bakery and had a cup of tea while we were waiting, then began an explanation of Australian government for Ziv - slightly side-tracked by unionism - on the way back to the cinema.
Ziv and I took some pics of the cinema, which was a storage room with bench seats either side covered with yak hides
Ziv explained to B what yom kipper is. We explained to Ziv the many uses Australians have for the word 'stuffed' - which was prompted by the unfortunate yak at the museum.
