I left for Dublin right after work on Thursday and got in pretty late. I worked all day Friday in our Dublin office. The people are really nice, and I have to admit that it was a bit nice to leave the language barrier for a little while. And they have this crazy nice coffee machine in the office where I could get unlimited coffee all day. I didn't realize just how much I miss coffee. I had 5 coffees all day Friday. After work I went to dinner and have a couple of drinks with a friend from the office, Patricia. We went to this nice marina area and had seafood.
On Saturday, we packed all kinds of sites in to a full day. We toured Malahide castle, which is a well-kept former residence of some important Irish family. I guess you can tell how much I retained =) Then we went to the city centre to walk around a bit. We went to Trinity College where the Book of Kells is kept. It's the oldest bible in Ireland. We decided not to wait in line to see it. We went to Christ's Cathedral, which was pretty. Then went to lunch at a pub where I had fish and chips. Yum. After that we toured the Guinness brewery. It was pretty interesting, although I don't think I retained very much of that either. The tour ends with a free pint at the top of the building where you can get a really good view of the city. I found that I actually like Guinness; I really like the flavor. I remembered not liking it very much when I tried it once when I was younger.
Saturday night we went to dinner at another work friend's house and then went out to have drinks. Dublin seems to have a very active nightlife. We went out to a handful of pubs, and they were all really packed with people. We were at the club until 4am or so, so I am trying to recover today =)
I liked Dublin a lot and could definitely see going back at some point to hang out.
