Saturday: Habitat, Ingenuity, and Nightlife
Entry 3 of 5 | show all | print this entry |
Today we started off the day at a volunteer event for Chris's firm. AFter a late night we headed off to Habitat for Humanity, which was in a sketchy neighborhood, around 8:00am! We were assigned to the ReSTORE, a place where they sell hardware from renovated houses and also some new goods donated from hardware stores and used goods donated from individuals. We worked from 9-1, but it was really slow and boring just standing around waiting for customers! Oh well, it's for charity. After this we were starving and ate at a small but yummy diner in Lakewood. Following a much-needed nap, we showered and headed off to the Ingenuity Festival downtown. We weren't really sure what the point of this festival was, they had a few cool art stands and a lot of music stages but charged $10 admission. We walked around and shopped a bit before discovering our favorite new Cleveland band, 71 North. They sing this song called Booty Bounce in which literally the only words are "let me see your booty bounce". After purchasing a 71 North CD, we headed off to dinner. I thought we were going to the House of Blues which was right nearby but it turned out that Chris had made arrangements through a partner at his law firm for us to get a table in the exclusive dinner club above the House of Blues called the Foundation Room It is a members only restaurant and is decorate in Indian decor salvaged from actual Temples. It was beautiful and the service was terrific. Foodwise I had a GREAT foie gras with aged balsamic appetizer and Chris had a salad. I had the veal tenderloin and cavatelli entree and Chris had a strip steak which was also excellent. we had wine out on the patio of the Foundation Room and then walked across the street to Pickwick and Frolic where they had a Midnight Martini Cabaret Show. The show was short, about 1/2 hour, and very cite, and best of all it was free. We were lucky enough to show up late but still be escorted to a table right in the front of the stage, Goodfellas style. After the show had ended we hopped in a cab down to West 6th and went to Spy bar where they had some good hiphop and even better people watching. Around last call we called it a night and cabbed it home to Lakewood!
