Day Two: Cross-town Rivalry Game!
Entry 4 of 6 | show all | print this entry |
Today we slept in (I wonder why?!) and headed to the big cross-town rivalry baseball game at Wrigley Field (the Addison stop of the Red Line) at 1:20pm. We stopped at good old Burrito Beach next to our hotel for a quick bite before we left. (This is a cheap place like a Chipolte, Chris likes the shrimp burrito I like the chicken.) This was a tough ticket to get, Chris managed to get two near third base for $105 a piece from a ticket broker. Everyone around us paid about the same, even though the tickets said the price was $28 right on them! This was a wild time, it was about 85 degrees and muggy and the crowd was crazy! Cold beers were about $6 a can but worth it to cool you down. The first inning was very exciting with the last-place Cubs scoring 7 runs on the World Series champs in the bottom of the inning (the Sox scored two in the top). The final score of the game was something like 15 to 11 and the Cubs won at home to make the series 2-1 final. The woman sitting next to us who you can see in pictures wouldn't shut up the entire time about restaurants in Chicago and how she could never live in California because their food is too healthy and about how dirty NYC is even though she hadn't been there since she was a child. She also informed us that we should go to Cancun because at least its Americanized and they have a Tomy Romas there. After the game we went out in "wrigleyville", the area around the stadium. This was packed with people and lots of fun. We tried to go to Murphy's (in the picture) but it was to crowded so we went somewhere else with mostly Sox fans that was less crowded. We met a guy named Benjie who was overly-friendly and interesting along with his nameless friend in the OJ shirt (pics). Benjie will be in Japan at the same time as us and may send an email! Even though Benjie objected we left soon after to get a nap at the hotel after being sundrenched all day. We made a quick dinner reservation at the Signature Room @ the 95th floor of the Hanock Tower for 9:30 before falling asleep. Unfortunately we were pretty tired and slept until 9:15 by accident! I dragged Chris out of bed and we rushed into a cab and actually made it there on time. We had some yummy lobster bisque and shrimp apps, I had a delicious filet, and Chris had the two lobster tail special which turned out to be just so-so and cost $60. The view is great if you are on the land-side by a window, but we sat water-side away from the window. Might be better just to get a drink in the lounge. We were still really tired and headed back to go to sleep around 12:30.
