Alright, so London doesn't completely blow, but it has been a bit dissappointing. Pubs close at 11:00!! Who would of thought? The English are known as big drinkers but we keep closing down all of these pubs and this isn't as impressive as one might think being so early in the evening. We spent a day walking around Westminster seeing Big Ben, Parliament, Buckingham Palace, etc.
Again, not very impressive. One of the most dissappointing things has been that there is no roundabout outside of Big Ben and Parliament. So when Clark Griswald had problems "getting left" I now know that that was a crock of shit.
We've decided instead of writing in journals about our travels we'd use the journals to make lists of various things. Our first list was of all the pubs we've been to. In only three days we have hit about 15+ pubs. Yes, impressive, I know. The next list was of the two hostels we've stayed in so far. The first one was the No. 8. A bit smelly and unorganized. I had a visit from a Nigerian in the shower. I swear I locked the door, but apparently I didn't. He then continued to stalk me a bit from that point on. The first night they decided to give Matula's bed to a drunk girl so when we got back at 3:00AM we had no other choice than to share a twin bed. Our friendship will never quite be the same. Next we stayed at St. Christopher's Village for three nights. The biggest party hostel in all of London. I am clearly the oldest person here but, again, we are having no problems closing down their bar either. Saturday night at the bar included people getting thrown out by the bouncers and people throwing up in the bathrooms, which were probably the same people that were thrown out. And Jen, since you asked, yet another list is of hook ups. But those details will be sent in private emails so certain people can't read them :)
We've been walking around the various neighborhoods each day and checking out the many markets. Borough Market is right down the street from St. Christopher's Village. It's an incredible market, like a farmers market, situated underneath train tracks with all kinds of ethnic food stalls; veggies & fruit, cheeses, nuts, baked goods, organic foods, etc. Sunday we went to Campden Market, which is in a more alternative neighborhood kinda like the Clark and Belmont area. There's a nice boardwalk along the River Thames from around where we were staying and ending at the London Eye with pubs, restaurants, art galleries, etc. Lots of street performers and incredible people watching to be experienced.
I went to Tate Modern yesterday as Matula slept off a hangover. It's a modern art museum which is in a beautiful industrial looking building. A lot of the artwork was your typical geometric shapes on canvas and other things that we all believe we can do just as well ourselves. But they had a Rivera, Picasso, Miro, and other famous artists that I can't quite recall now.
We then went to find Abbey Road and took the obligatory pics crossing the street.
Hope all is well with everyone and you're enjoying your summer. Thank you to everyone that has emailed me. Keep them coming...
Cheers!
