Following our trip to the interior, we headed back to the exterior (beach) to the resort town of Praia do Forte. The trip back from Lencois was slightly more complicated than we had planned, the traffic built up nearer the coast and a confusing 'short cut' turned out to involve going through a major city centre with a far from simple one way system which we had only reached by navigating with the help of a bush fire!

Once arrived we settled in to our Pousada, Balanca de Mar. The owner was a very nice man, whose job appeared to lying in a hammock all day listening to the piercing sound of the numerous budgerigars he had caged and scaring off potential customers with his slightly freaky smile.
We had nice dark rooms (windows weren't considered  a necessity) plus a fan and an air conditioning unit, which we discovered after much tampering was controlled by a master switch in Reception. So not only were the rooms lovely and stuffy, we had an AC unit that wasn't switched on to look longingly at!
Praia do Forte is a (nicely) manufactured town, built for Salvador's wealthy who want to enjoy the beach and purchase T-shirts of said beach, but the big attraction was the Sea Turtle sanctuary which is right on the beach. The reasonable entry fee of R$8 (or half price for senior citizens, brilliantly known as idioses in Portuguese!) allowed us in to the park which had plenty of sea turtles (big & small), sharks and stingrays that you could stroke. Interesting to listen to random Portuguese conversations with the odd reference to Steve Irwin thrown in.

Most of our time in Praia do Forte was spent on the beach, which was golden, palm-tree-lined and pretty empty, enviously checking out the Eco resort that looked awesome (though not particularly eco, which is possibly why it looked so good!), and deciding where to eat and drink at night. For this last task, we diligently tried out a good 80% of bars to check their Caipirinha's concluding that Bar Tango had the tastiest, but the biggest and strongest were at our last night's choice of restaurant - Jenny's mum and dad are convinced they gave us doubles without telling us!! We all left slightly worse for wear, but ended a great week of chilling out on the beach and relaxing before we said goodbye to Jenny's Mum & Dad and we headed for a flight to Sao Paulo...
