Where I stayed

In Interlaken we stayed at Balmer's Tent Village. It was an interesting experience! Basically they had set up a bunch of large tents and trailers in a field about 15 minutes walk from their hostel. It was nice and sunny when we arrived and lots of people were out relaxing in the hammocks on the lawn. It looked great! And we could see mountains all around, including the snowy peak of Jungfrau, the highest mountain in this part of the Alps (4158 M or 13642 ft). However it quickly got very cold at night (Andrew slept in long underwear, pants, a wooley hat and a fleece jacket!), rained the second evening and we had to tell some noisy neighbours to be quiet. It was half the price of a hotel, however, some might say you get what you pay for!

Interlaken is a beautiful place, between two lakes, surrounded by mountains. We took a cogwheel train up one called Schynige Platte (2000 M) that had a spectacular view of the town and other mountains (Including Jungfrau and the Eiger). We went for a hike and I took a lot of pictures! We stopped for lunch at the restaurant there and had some extremely expensive fries and hot dogs. After we came down from the mountain, we took a walk through the town for a bit and then joined the crowd of other people trying to make supper in the hostel kitchen. Also a bit of an adventure!
