Yesterday, I could honestly not tell you what day it was. We are 13 hours ahead of Florida and somehow doing the math on whether it was Wednesday or Thrusday was just beyond me. That was the jetlag talking. Today is Thursday and the begining of our action packed schedule.

We arrived on Tuesday evening to Manila at approx. 10:40PM. Went through customs and as we emerged into the muggy crowded waiting area of the Manila airport we were so tired an out of it we almost missed Roland and Dan with an amazing huge banner with our picture on it. How we could have missed that is beyond me.

We then proceeded to our hotel for a good nights sleep which, as you will find out was not in the cards. The drive to airport was our first taste of the Philippines. Traffic and noise, street kids running up to the car, etc. At night we could not see a thing but Manila bay was  right across from our hotel.

As we arrived at the Traders Hotel, all 5 of us were wide awake. We invited Dan and Roland and the other Rotarians to join us in the lounge for a beer. A beer later the District Governor showed up to greet us. It must have bee 2:00 AM. We enjoyed meeting our new Rotary family late at night over a few beers.

Wednesday was orientation. I will sum this up as a day of eating great food and hearing exactly what our trip would entail. There is sushi and rice on the breakfast buffet here. I believe I may be in heaven. We were transported from our hotel around 3:00 to the Rotary center in Quezon City and sent off with our host families. Kati and I are staying together this week and I will fill you in on Tito later.

We are a world away from everyone we know and love but when you are with Rotarians, it seems you can have a family anywhere.
