Entry 8 of 30 | show all | print this entry

Hello everyone!

Ok so where was I... Siem Reap I think.... So from there we got a boat to Phnom Penh, decided to give the roads a break after our initial experience. We stayed in a house on the lake which was nice. We headed out to the Killing Fields first and then to a mseum of a school where the Khmer Rouge kept the prisoners... so that was a pretty sobering experience. Phnom Penh is nuts. They fit up to 5 people on one motorbike and think nothing of carrying about 100 chickens on one too. The day after we just wandered about the temples and museums, I got attacked by a four year old who insisted in slapping my arm as I tried to skake him off. :-)
The day after that we got up early to get the bus to Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) The bus was grand and so was the road but then we had to cross a river on a ferry and of course (!) our bus got stuck trying to get on so we all had to get off the bus again while yer man reversed off the ramp and tried the other ferry.
Anyway eventually made it to Ho Chi Minh. The first day we went to the CuChi tunnels where the VietCong lived during the American war. Pretty interesting. And then we went to a war museum which again was another sobering experience. Some scary quotes from President Johnson that practially mirrored Bush's quotes on Iraq.
So the day after that we headed to the Mekong Delta. It was ok, nothing too special really. Lots of Fruit trees and stuff.
Then we flew to HoiAn (not Hanoi... I keep getting them confused)
HoiAn is a lovely place. Very small and easy to get around. Lots and lots of tailors there and I got some clothes made for not very much money. We had a really nice meal in a restuarant which didn't have any menus. We had to decide between 'seafood' and 'vegetarian' and then the chef just cooked whatever he fancied. We got loads of nice food (including baby shark).
We are now in Hue. Just arrived today and its nice enough. The drive to Hue was the most interesting... and pretty scary at times. :-)

Anyway Sin E.
Hi to everyone... :-) Hope that covers all the mails ;-) I really am sorry. In Brisbane I'll have lots of time to mail I promise... Someone said something about work but I'm sure thats just a rumour!
Talk to ye soon

Jen xx
