Hello!

I'm back... Well since I've been on last I've done a lot. THis is a long one, be warned!

Firstly I'll tell ye about the jungle. Headed for a couple of nights to Tamen Negara. And real jungle it is too... With yer Elephants, wild boar, monkeys, snakes and 1 tiger. See this one tiger worried me. We went for one of the marked trails on the first day, saw us a flying-squirrel and went on the longest canopy walk in the world apparently. A canopy walk (for those who don't know) is a make-shift rope-bridge made with a few ladders, some wood, fishing net and some ropes!... ah no seriously it looked sort-of safe! ;-) ... Anyway the trail was not very marked really and seriously thought we were lost at one stage... anyway on our was around there was a big loud roar and I heard somthing running thrugh the trees... and sure I thought it was definitely the tiger for sure and nearly died on the spot, but no it was some wild boar and we eventually found our way back to the start. THe next morning we went to do an organised "cave exploration"... and here was me thinking of somethin glike the Ailwee caves, but oh no twas some proper caving (with no equipment!) with loads of bats flying about, a snake or two, giant frogs and some big spiders. Twas more than enough for me and I was dying to get our of there!
That evening we went on another trip to visit the Orang-Asli (local tribe) village. They had some more very weird animals. A baby bear-cat and a huge horn-bill bird (scary-looking yoke!) :-)
Anyway, made it out of the jungle alive after taking a boat back to Jerantut... passing some stranded tourists in another boat cos their one had broken down. tough out!

So we then took the night-train (big affair in Jerantut, judging by the crowds coming to wave people off at 2am!) to Kuala Kerai and from there a taxi to the coast and then took a boat to the Perhenthian Islands. From leaving the jungle it took 24 hours in total so we stayed 4 days on the gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous stunning wonderful Perhenthian Besar. There are 2 islands and the bigger one is the less inhabited. These islands have no roads, they are complete jungle with beautiful beaches and clear waters (I can't recommend it highly enough and worth every minute of the 24 hours travelling to get there). So we staying in a chalet on the beach and took it easy for the first couple of days. Said a quick Dia dhuit to the the Prime Minister of Terranganu (a state of Malaysia) when he arrived in his helicopter one day. On the third day we were on a snorkelling trip, the first hour we swan about with some tropical fish, next we went to swim with the turtles (definitely my favourite part of the trip so far)... and I swam beside one and rubbed his shell!! It was brilliant. Next we went to find the baby shark somewhere else (not so worried at this stage) until we got back into the boat and yer man said the 4 of us were off to SHARK POINT!! oh yes i was only delighted :-) but the guide assured me the sharks weren't dangerous so I got into the water and we eventually saw one about a metre long (not very big and not so scary) so that was grand and I was glad to get back into the boat.
The place we were staying on the island was lovely. The had a bbq everynight and we had some fresh Barracudda bbq'd... mmmm... :-) lovely stuff.

Anyway we had to move off the island at some stage we went to Kota Bharu ( the last town before the Thai border). Didn't find it very interesting as lots of the things to do were closed by the time we got there... and the world famous night-market seemed to have been changed into a car-park. So we headed to the border in the morning, crossed it (as ya do) and got the train with some scary army-men with big rifles and a even more scary waitress who fancied Doug and kept trying to sell him beer... so we hopped off the train 9 hours later at Surat Thani and for the night-boat to Kho Pha-Ngan. Here now and tis nice enough. Just taking it handy.

Sin e, I'll be back soon.

Jen x
