Many people seem to spend a minimum amount of time in the Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park and when they are done simply continue their travels either north or south. Yet if you have come all this way and it doesn't get more remote than this surely an extra 300k west isn't going to kill you. On recommendation from numerous people en route as well as prior to leaving the UK (thanks Tom) we made our way to Kings Canyon. Now I could wax lyrical about this for a long time but I will try and keep it short. Sadly our photos just wont do it justice at all. The canyon is mahoosive with lush vegetation sprouting randomly. It has a small delightful garden of eden with crystal clear rockpools decorated with foliage, there are giant eroded domes, and deep orange/red coloured 100m high walls, reminiscent of Zion NP in USA if that helps you to picture how stunning this place is. We hiked up the steep 100m cliff face to start the 5 mile rim walk that gave us remarkable new vistas upon every turn. It was like walking on another planet as the views of this undulating sandstone/granite rock spread as far as the eye could see. Move over Great Keppel Island we have a new entry, straight in at number 1 in the top places to go in Australia, Kings Canyon.
