As Chris previously mentioned I decided not to climb Ayres Rock respecting the wishes of the Anangu people. Afterall I wouldn't clamber all over Jon V's synagogue 'shabat shalom Jon' and so felt my time would be better spent not having an asthma attack and learning about Anangu culture. My time was indeed spent wisely as I learnt 2 new aboriginal words, yes 2. Walpa means wind, possibly a word only introduced into the Anangu diction after a certain Gary Smith visited the area back in the early 1990's. My second new word was Palya. This means pretty much everything else, hello, goodbye, please, thank you, do you have this kangaroo fur hat in a smaller size and have you seen my boomerang.
After another sub zero night's sleep we set off to walk The Olgas (previously referred to as a large bag of satsumas). Whilst the nights were freezing the days never really reached anything above 15 degrees

and he is the main geezer
. It was unseasonally cold by about 10 degrees we were told. So fully togged up once again, with little to distinguish our gender with all our layers, we joined people dressed in crazy purple all in one jumpsuits from ski fashion circa 1983 (seriously why do people still have this stuff)? We scrambled over rocks, trudged over uneven ground, rootled through gorges and had an excellent 5 mile ramble through the large rounded monoliths/satsumas. The sun was shining, the sky was clear and we had a spring in our step... perfect. Well it would have been apart from the pesky flies. We can only assume in summer the flies are in the same abundance as they are in somalia. We were so agitated by these damned things we were moved to buy hat fly nets and yes we do look like a pair of eccentric nutters from a miss marple mystery but yes it was 7 bucks well spent.
