Having bypassed Mission Beach initially, we rattled on in on our way back southwards. Its a charming place that lacks the fever and prices of Cairns with a relaxed cluster of cafes and a long beach. Highly recommended by Big Gay Al we thought we'd stay the night. Sadly the inclement weather returned the next day so there seemed little point in staying just to get cold & wet. There are only so many sandcastles you can make wearing your pacamac before you realise you have become your own parents. Despite Mission Beach also being a popular place to skydive Chris came up with every excuse not to, it was a bit overcast, he had just eaten a bowl of cornflakes, it would ruin his hair, he wasn't wearing his lucky pants etc. (chicken).
The journey back to Townsville was delightful as we trundled inland through rolling green hills and valleys, it was just like something from a James Heriot or Charlotte Bronte. We stopped for a cheese tasting session, photo stops at Millaa Millaa falls and the giant curtain fig tree and one last sneaky exotic fruit wine tasting. How much of this stuff so you have to drink to make up your rda I wander?
Armed with enough water to replenish a drought, enough energy bars to fuel a marathon and Nick & Kirsty as our HQ to report into along the way, we planned our route through the Queensland outback and across into Northern Territory outback and no we are not going near wolf creek!!
