So we swallowed our pride and rode back into the beef capital with no intention of really staying any longer than it takes two people to shower shit shave and shampoo. But hold on a minute these houses we are passing are amazing this is nothing like the rockhampton we saw before. The german family clearly lived in the 90210 side of town and oh my god what a beautiful house they had.the photos I know won't do it justice but it was like stepping into a scene of the OC. A delightful pool with hammock,al fresco eating area, sweeping staircase, about a kerbillion rooms, separate fully self contained flat below, views of wide open bush land and an indoor fish pond, and ellie you will appreciate this they had a laundry shute from the upstairs mezzanine directly to the laundry room, bloody brilliant. It was only a short drive to Mount Archer, which made an excellent viewpoint to watch the sunset over the sprawling city with its meandering river and grand mountain ranges. Hold on I am describing rockhampton as if I like it, well I hereby call you as witnesses as we eat our words and say actually now we have seen another side to this place we both actually really like it 1beautiful house

Now the Schmittmanns also had some friends from berlin staying whilst we we there, aha more victims to pracise my ropey language skills on. Ohh ja allez gut, werbung! It didn't take long before we realised 57 year old Dirk from Berlin was one of the funniest guys in the world. He was like a deutsch Borat. Yes Helen not Bograt. His conversation was limited in english but better than chris's german (there are only so many times you can gersundheit chris). I swear he would end a sentence with`...eez nice, I like` and stone me if he didn't say `high five`. His laughter was infectious and once he had got to grips with our names and why we were in australia, he seemed to enjoy constantly recapping, ` eez yes jinifuurr end keristofuuur you are liking to duureyev wiz yur ven erownd ziz cowntry, I like, yes, high five`.

We spent lazy days eating and drinking, with games of footie in the park, frisbee on the beach and evenings of wine and fascinating stories. chris became a big brother to hilarious 12 year son Munya with jumpers for goalposts and 14 year old daughter Billie let me be her friend too, despite the fact i was held partly reponsible for deleting her ipod playlist. Michael is a really funny guy and is a flying doctor the perfect guy to distract you from any pain you might be in although if he wore his bike helmet and home made cardboard glasses in surgery your may need stitches from laughing, and Lindelies became a good friend to us both. It may sound like a potential recipe for disaster hanging out with adolescents and a german borat but we truly had a great time and we were heartily welcomed into the family, we really didn't want to leave.
