On to Versailles
Entry 9 of 10 | show all | print this entry |
Today, our morning was free so we went on a shopping tour. Robin and Sarah went with Ms. DiChiara to shop for souvenirs. (Robin was begging any one of us to go so she doesn't have to interact with Sarah.) But we all went with Mr. Aviles to look for books and antiques. I bought the original French version of the book The Little Prince. Then we kinda got lost and didn't find any antiques. Also, we, well, actually, I was trying to find a crepe vendor, and we didn't. How ironic! I'm in Paris, and I expect to find one in every corner!
Anyways, with all our walking, we stumbled upon a street fair where I had the best strawberry tarts ever, and we passed by the tunnel where Diana (Princess Di) died. We all rushed to the hotel after encountering Ms. DiChiara on the Metro. I took out an order of croque monsieur from the restaurant we ate in yesterday, and I ate it on the coach ride to Versailles. Once there, we walked its enormous gardens, and we (except for Robin, Jess, and Jen) took a boat ride on the canal that connected Marie Antoinette's cottage to the main palace. Then I finally had a crepe (a chocolate one from a vendor in the park!) We were kinda late (Buying and stopping to eat the crepes made us late :o) and Gresi had to run out to go get us. (She looked pissed!) The palace was so awesome. (I wouldn't mind living there!)
It was back to Paris after and up the Eiffel Tower. We were a minute late, but the coach left us anyway. So we (except for Jess) and Sarah (aarrgghh!) along with Mr. Aviles decided to go see a movie at Champs Elysees. Robin and I went for "Good Will Hunting," and they, including Mr. Aviles got tickets for "The Man in The Iron Mask." Before the movie, we went to McDonald's for dinner. In the theater, ushers were selling snacks in the aisles, and the seats were so comfortable. The movie was the original version, so it was in english with french subtitles. It was a great movie, and Matt Damon has got to have the hottest body ever! The movie started at 9:50 PM and ended at 11:50. We got back to the hotel via the Metro. I was dead when I hit my bed!
Versailles was the very symbol of opulence. I actually retract my statement from before: I don't think I'd want to live there. The place was gorgeous and elegant: the Hall of Mirrors, the rich furnishings, gold moldings on the wall, but it was cold and impersonal. We didn't actually get to see Marie Antoinette's cottage, but next time I'm in that part of France, I'll make sure to go :o).
Btw, I later found out that crepe vendors don't normally show up on the streets of Paris 'till early afternoon :o)
