Today we switched hotels. The new one is nice and not far away from the train station. It is not the Radisson however it will work for a couple of nights. We decided today to go see "Hamlet's castle" in Helsingør which is a hour's train ride north of Copenhagen. The real name of the castle is Kronborg and it was a fortress for Denmark (not a very good one since it could not withstand long sieges and was captured by the Swedes) useful at one time for securing toll tax collection for the area. It was the backdrop for Hamlet thus the reason for the name. What makes the fortress not very good is the lower areas under the fortress is so cold and wet, that solders would get sick and lose the will to fight. Otherwise it is an impressive fortress. Afterwards, we stopped and got some Danish Pancakes; yum, yum
Today was very hot. The train ride back to Copenhagen had no air conditioning however we did get a warm breeze when the train moved. Needless to say we took a shower when we got to the hotel before we went to dinner in the Tivoli. We ate at a "Viking" restaurant where we had reindeer and elk for appetizer and I had a large steak and fried potatoes and Julia had fish.
On the plane ride to Europe, I met a nice young lady who is getting married in Greece this summer. Her fiancé lives in Copenhagen so tomorrow we will be meeting them for a river cruise, a visit to Copenhagen's Mermaid, and what ever else comes up.
PS: Be sure to check out the following video of "The Exorcists". We found this in the Royal Apartments at Kronborg....
