Episode 16: Pearl Lagoon and the Continued Search
Trip Start Mar 14, 2004
335Trip End Ongoing
As my search for the missing castaways of Gilliganīs Island continues, it brings me to the Pearl Keys; 18 little islands about 35 km from the Caribbean coast town of Pearl Lagoon. They seem to be mostly uninhabited and pristine. Picture perfect postcard kind of stuff. Then the helicopter roars overhead. It's the Nicaraguan military shuttling Spainīs latest Survivor contestants to an isla next door for what is, without a doubt, another challenge to determine who gets voted off the island. I didn't even bother photographing this. A little island with a military chopper parked on it was not the image I had imagined before coming here. Meanwhile, I walked my little island in it's entirety checking for any signs of life or evidence that this was once Gillgan's hangout. Mission failed. This was not the place.
Next, it's back to the mainland and another panga (fast boat) north to the Garifuna community of Orinoco and the lesson about the white lobster.
