Brazilīs self proclaimed capital of Reggae music is Sao Louis... a cool colonial town where all the buildings are covered in Portuguese tiles, supposedly to combat the heat. I arrived with my buddy Boris after a miserable, overpriced, 14 hour bus ride over the worst road Iīve ever been on. I didnīt know you could even take a bus on a road like this. And when the road was not a pothole infested mess of moon sized craters, you know what they put on the smooth pavement that still remained????? Speed Bumps! Sleep was something we only talked about on this overnight journey of hell.
The best part about this place is simply all the live music on the street in the evening and wandering around to see what you can find. One of our unique discoveries was the Farmacia de Casacha ... a small store where this guy sells 150 different varieties of an almost undrinkable firewater ... business was booming! I met a lot of cool people here, especially other travelers that I should see along my way going south... thatīs really all from this place. Letīs go to the beach.....

Wow! It's been a long time since we've talked!
Hi jeff! This is jeani chandley----like i said, it's been a long time since we've talked lol! i met your uncle and he told me about your nomadic venture and i had to check it out for myself! Looks like you are experiencing some truly amazing things----i bet it makes erie seem so . . . . hmmmm, small? I was going thru some of my stuff and i found a pic of you and john and boy did it bring back memories lol! And then i remembered college and what a great friend you were to me, and i missed you! So then i decided to send you a little note hello. I was on the verge of doing some traveling myself, i WAS supposed to go to mississippi to help with the hurricane clean-up but the area i was assigned to ended up having enough support at the time. So then i was put on the waiting list----now they are going to florida and i already signed up to do work in kentucky (not for hurricane clean-up) in first week of may, but i might go to florida if they need me in the summer. I also was supposed to go to my hometown in Seoul, Korea last Nov, but since i thought i was going to mississippi i had cancelled that trip! sad, but true. Maybe this nov. . . . we'll see. What's really cool is that you are going to places i've always wanted to, and seeing things that i have wanted to (but more than likely won't get the chance to myself), and now i don't have to cuz you are like a walking atlas/encyclopedia! i look forward to seeing what you 'dig' up in the future! take care of yourself and if you were here i'd give you a big hug (so you just have to use your imagination lol). talk to you soon---jeani (jeanius1308@aol.com --- if you ever get a chance to write lol)
