Well, I am still in Leon. I liked hiking the volcano so much the other week, I decided I would hang out here for a couple more weeks and volunteer to help out Quetzaltrekkers, the organisation that leads the hikes.
As an assistant guide, the hikes are free for me and itīs just plain fun. Itīs a good cause too as their profits go to another org that helps street kids and children at risk here in Leon. I am amazed at the number of kids prowling the streets for a handout of a coin or some scraps of food. One kid wanted to know if I could take him to the store so I could buy him some shoes. Anyway, the problem right now is that there arenīt many tourists coming through at the moment and no one is signing up for the hikes. So other than visiting an old fort on my own, it hasnīt been real busy here. If things donīt pick up soon, Iīll probably move on to Managua or Granada. Obviously, if there is no one to guide, thereīs nothing much for me to do.
I have some pretty cool photos from the roof of the Basilica(the largest Cathedral in C. Amer.) Check those out when I get them posted.
