Sarah and i endured the 11 hour flight from Perth to J,Berg and somwhow managed to catch our connecting flight over to Cape Town, all on the 13th January. We arrived at our disappointing backpacker hostel at 9pm local time but our body clocks were screaming at us shouting 'it's 4 in the morning'! The bed wasn't comfy and there were mosquitos buzzing around the small dank room but suffice to say, we both slept like logs!

Awakening the following day it was time to explore Cape Town and make plans to get on the road. We hitched a cab into the centre of town costing 40 pence for 2 of us and made a few enquiries into hiring a car. The guy at the travel shop was so friendly, giving us sound advice as to routes to think about and various options on hire car prices and displaying enthusiasm not seem in australia. This was such a refreshing change from most encounters i had with australia people who seem to prefer to have any interaction with you on a confrontational basis! Both Sarah, myself and most of the travellers who we met in Australia felt this way.

Cape Town is a beautiful city with Table Mountain and other mountains acting as a fabulous backdrop to a fantastic city. The market place in the centre of town was bustling, cheap and friendly. I'm actually regretting staying in Australia for so long and honestly think that i'll never go back there!

Food is cheap but accomodation is expensive so we've made the decision to get on the road on the 17th January in our hire car (went with enthusiastic man!) across the coast and round to J,Berg for a duration of 2 to 3 weeks. From here we give ourselves 5 weeks to get from J,Berg to Nairobi (somehow) and then fly home! It's a sad fact for me now in that every mile i travel, i'll be getting a mile nearer to home, but obviously there'll be an adventure or 2 to experience along the way!
