Where I stayed
As we planned our slow trip back up North we decided to make another stop in Georgia. Savannah is one of our favorite places and we thought we'd try staying at a spot a bit more inland. We chose Brunswick because we had never been there and we liked the idea of it being part of the "Golden Isles". That term refers to Brunswick, St. Simons, Little St. Simons and Jekyll Island. They are all in close proximity and known for their natural surroundings on the sea.
As we left St. Augustine for Georgia we found that it was going to be a windy trip. As the wind continued Jeff had me check the Weather Channel on my phone. It was noon and the weather report right up the coast and particularly for Brunswick was " Tornedo watch until 8:00 p.m. Winds of 45-60 mph expected"
The next day we spent exploring the Golden Isles and decided that "Jekyll Island" is our favorite. In its heyday it was vacation home to some of America's rich and famous families. The Jekyll Island Hotel is a sprawling complex of historic homes surrounded by lush grounds, golfers, bikers and tennis players. Today it is simply a beautiful island with 7 miles of quiet beaches and lots of wildlife. We had a wonderful lunch at a beach side restaurant and then bundled up to walk the beach in search of shells. We happened to go walking at very low tide and found few shells but over 20 perfect sand dollars in the short time we hunted. We were thrilled to be so successful in our search!
So after two nights in Brunswick Kathie once again puts herself in the navigation seat to plan our next stop. Round and round and round she goes; where she stops nobody knows!
