Our trip from Ocala to Dunedin took us exclusively down secondary roads.  We had expected to travel along I75 and were pleasantly surprised to find ourselves driving through small towns and cities to our next destination.  We decided that Florida is the state of strip malls.  It was a never-ending sight!

We are staying at a lovely campground which accomodates motor homes, mobile homes and includes a small hotel, The Blue Moon Inn.  Sandra and John will fly to Tampa on Sunday and stay at the Inn for the next two weeks.  Jeff and I have been exploring the area so that we're ready to hit the ground running when they arrive.  Yesterday we drove down the coast to Clearwater Beach and enjoyed a great seafood lunch at Crabby Bill's.  John will be happy to know about the fried oysters there!  The beach in Clearwater is white sand and beautiful.  It's a really commercial and tourist filled city so we were ready to get back in the car and keep driving.  We stuck to the coastal highway and went as far as Madiera Beach.  The little towns along the way are much quieter and the beach views were nice to see.

On Friday we drove just a few miles  from the campground, across the Dunedin causeway,  to Honeymoon Island State Park.  The first sign we saw upon entering the park was, "Rattlesnakes are not uncommon."  Yes, we were sure to mind our steps!  This is a beautiful and vey natural island.  We had taken a picnic lunch with us and found a secluded and primitive spot on the beach where the few other people there were very intent on shelling.  It was so peaceful and we were content to eat our lunches while watching the pelicans diving for theirs!  This island reminds us so much of our many happy times with family on Chincoteague Island in Virginia.  Sandra and John will love this protected spot and we know we'll spend time here with them during the next two weeks.

Temperatures at night have been in the 50's and 60's and rising quickly to upper 70's and low 80's during the day.  All in all very pleasant and unusually warm for February; just like everyone back home has been experiencing.  We were interested to hear on the news last night that Europe has been having an unusually cold winter while ours has been just the opposite.  We saw that Nottingham, where Rachel and her family are, was 32 degrees yesterday.  Don't think their temps typically get that low.  Crazy, crazy weather but we'll not fight what Florida is giving us!

Snow here today, and it is even sticking, so the view from our window is a blanket of white! A far cry from a nice sunny beach :(

Glad you are enjoying the sun and all that Florida has to offer.
Just wanted to know if you have seen a sunset yet? When I visited Jim & Judy in Destin, each evening during cocktail hour we walked across the bridge to the beach to see THE sunset. We never saw it but we enjoyed making the effort. Stay cool, Lizzie

Just got caught up on your posts... Your posts brought back memories of one trip to NYC -- traveling in an RV... What a huge mistake! Thanks for the chuckles and enjoy your time there.
