Got into camp around 4:00 PM Monday night and were surprised to find other campers! We have never seen anyone camped here before- maybe because we come in the late fall or winter?

We WERE overweight so very relunctantly began to transfer things to Mom & Dad's rig, weighing each item as we did so. Finally jettisoned enough to be comfortable with the load and cracked open a couple of beers, then sent the Units on their way.

The Wood River is amazing. It springs forth from the base of a lava cliff a full fledged river. A lovely cocktail hour was spent by the large spring pool. We toasted the start of our adventure and decided to dedicate the trip to our parents, to Bob & Lib for their gift of a" cushion" to allow us time off , and knowing how proud they would have been over the way Jeff has handled the challenges of the past couple of years. To Ken & Wil, for keeping the "our house our home". We are sure they would/will all get a kick out of some of our (mis)adventures.

We also spent a little time remembering the Boyz and how much we miss them.

Had a quick dinner then took a walk to an amazing vista overlooking the Wood River Valley to the Crater Lake Rim and beyond. Can anything possibly top this?

Woke to a crisp 30 degrees and waited for the frost to melt off the kayaks before paddling. A symphony of birds accompanied our float.

Heading East towards the Abert Rim and the Warner Pot Holes. If we are lucky we will sniff out a hot springs or two.
