Where I stayed

That would be our travel time to get from Vancouver to Bangkok (YVR to Shanghai, Shanghai to Bangkok). If you add in our time at the airport in Vancouver, it actually would be 24 hours, 55 minutes. Quite the trek indeed. Luckily, we were able to get seats together on the side of the plane for both flights. This was so much better than having a random guy's elbow in my side the entire trip like when we flew to Frankfurt.

We found China Eastern Air to be a decent airline to fly. The planes were older (I remember flying to Hawaii on this type of plane in the 80s), but this meant that the seats were a bit more spacious with, what I felt was, adequate legroom. The food was pretty good as well. Unfortunately, there was no in-seat entertainment, but, luckily, we had our computers and some books to entertain us along with some napping.

We finally arrived in Bangkok around 2 am on January 3 and got to bed around 3 am. It was so warm in Bangkok - 24 degrees! Our hotel room was great at the Convenient Resort. For $20, we had a huge private room with bathroom and air conditioning. The bed was a bit hard, but this will be the case for all beds over the next 3 months.

When we wake up in the morning, we will be heading into the city of Bangkok to spend the night and then head north the next morning.

The food so far has been amazing. Pictures will follow soon of a dish or two although I will say that the food tastes even better than it looks.
