The one thing that I took most for granted growing up, was the experience of commercial fishing in Alaska. I think about this often and recollect on those days as some of the coolest times. From early on I remember climbing and traversing the bluff as early as 6 or 7 years old and getting the workers upset with me by eating too many of their snickers bars. Later on I understood a little more about the adrenalin felt with the big runs, the rewarding movie breaks on the soiled couches in the beach-cabin, the delicious meals brought down from the ma´s, and the camaraderie shared between my fishing family. It is where I developed and where most of my childhood memories remain.

I made some pretty cool memories a few days ago when I had the opportunity to see how a few locals do it off of their stretch of beach on this part of the Pacific. The differences abound; from the size and make of their boats and nets, the fish they catch, to what a ¨big day¨ means. Three fish for the whole day is a day to cherish for these two men. On the Kenai River, 300 fish is a day to forget between a crew of 6... Just like with most things here, a fish has ¨a bit¨ more value in Ecuador than it does back home.

Email Excerpts I had to Include...
¨Whats up with that man with no pants in your video of the fishing trip? Can he not afford pants or was this done on purpose? Poor guy maybe he needs some extra pantalones, maybe I can scrounge some up from my boys. It looked like you guys were having a blast, and I love the way you described your fishing trip in Alaska.¨
-Marylou Galvez

¨Hey man. nice video. we were dying watching you roll back with your old man hat while little pedro was working his but off (was he wearing any shorts). good stuff. fishing certainly is different in Ecuador than back home. Maybe dad should try out pedro's look next summer.¨
-Todd Jackson

MY RESPONSE:
No ¨lil´ Pedro¨ didn´t have any pants on put he did have some ¨tanny-tighties¨... yes he does own a pair of pants, and he actually dresses quite well on the few days he comes into the city... but why wear pants when it is you, the water, and your long time fishing partner, Colorado.... okay, bad argument.
