Working the fields... wine and 'futbol' that is!

I have told my babushka (grandmother) that I would go out to the farm one last time to help her with some of the spring work. My family has a small winery and farm out in Tavaksoy, a small village only a couple hundred kilometers from Chirchiq. And since her husband's death about four years ago, my Babushka has run the place by herself. My mother, sister, brother, neighbor (Haffis) and myself made the trip out. It was a hot day of quality family time working in the sun. Most of which I spent tilling dirt while the ladies trimmed and tied the vines. I think I discovered where the term "heard it through the grape vine" came from. Tavaksoy is a true keashlock, far from the world that we have come to know. And we have a number of trainees from my group stationed here.
After finishing a day of work in the field I convinced my family to go with me to Qibray for Peace Corps Uzbekistan's PST (Pre Service Training) Olympics. It was organized completely by trainees and held today. It included such 'company picnic' style games such as relay races, egg toss, futbol (soccer), and of course an Ultimate Frisbee contest (this still is the Peace Corps!). My Uzbek neighbor and I came in third place in the egg toss. I guess the tug-of-war was a tie, considering that the locally made rope broke in the middle of a fierce face off. Everyone fell at the same time, followed by laughter. My team dominated at Ultimate Frisbee, and won the relay race. As a prize I was given a Ferganna Valley Uzbek knife and a large jar of peanut butter. But when it came to Americans versus HCN futbol, the locals, with their shoeless goalie, dominated. A feast of the local dish (Osh/Plov) with Non and of course Chai was served for lunch. Everyone had a positive experience, and I don't think I burned my face too terribly. Definitely another Uzbek 17 trainee project success.
