Final Thoughts from Jerry Springer

Via Jenn:
Last night we returned to Mestre (aka the Ghetto), failed to pay our train fare, used our train fare on bottles of wine to consume, and held a fabulous fashion show in our room to show off our new gear.
Our flight to Amsterdam was at 6am which meant we had to get up at 3:30am to catch our 4am taxi to Marco Polo Airport. (I have been saying Marco! Polo!, Marco! Polo! in my head for days now). We have knocked the town of Mestre quite a bit on our trip, but it had one redeeming quality: proximately to the airport via roads. Many of the rich folk who could afford to stay in Venice had to take hour long water taxis this morning and then hire a taxi somewhere on land when it docked. Let's just say there were a lot of ruffled feathers this morning.
I put on my best pitiful look when we got to the ticket counter this morning. Worked like a charm and we got exit row seats for both of our flights. I think Marisa is going to ask me to travel with her internationally from now on because she is getting accustomed to this luxury. I would hope she would want me along because I'm a fun person, but I won't stretch the truth.
So, we are here in Amsterdam for a 3 hour layover. We thought we would sum up our trip with some final thoughts, yes, very Springeresque...
1. Pigeons are flying rats and should not be placed on your body by spreading birdseed on your extremities.
2. Pay to climb towers, but not to enter churches
3. American manners are overlooked and frowned upon...why bother?
4. Walking with elbows extended is the proper way to walk down a busy and tight alley-way
5. Don't order the goulash...they say it is traditional food, but it is glorified Chinese food
6. Americans tip for SERVICE, not for your rudeness and scowls and especially not when you pretend to not see us for 20 minutes.
7. Gelato makes everything better
8. Contrary to popular belief, driving in Europe is not that scary (except if your name is Barb Detmer and you think an on-ramp is straight when in reality it's an S-curve)
9. Ask every person around you where your train is going...don't assume anything!
10. Disco and 80s music is here to stay and we'll dance to it wherever we want to
11. When stared at, stare back
12. Gucci makes everything better
13. Eastern European dogs need to live a little and stop taking on the personalities of their grumpy and unapproachable owners
14. European money is not Monopoly money unfortunately...let's get the US economy back in the game
15. We wish they all could be California boys...disappointment, disappointment
Our Favorites: City- Budapest Day- Hvar Island, Croatia Food- Budapest Castle/Palace/Fortress- Vienna Schonbrum (the yellow one, can't spell it) Boys- Italian Volleyball Team last seen in Terminal 2 at Rome Airport
