Thanks to some sleeping pills, I had an awesome sleep and didn't get up until around 10.15am.

Feeling surprisingly refreshed, I got myself organised and grabbed a cab down to Crew Stadium for Day 2 of Rock on the Range.

I managed to track down my Canadian brothers in arms who were already 2 drinks in at their boot party. They graciously handed me a beer which I duly accepted. It would have been an insult to do otherwise. I did flick them $20 as I was intending to have more :)

I managed to finally get the names of my 3 partners in crime - Tom, Pete and Scott - all from Windsor, Ontario, Canada and all bloody good blokes, each with a wicked sense of humour. I got on with them like a house on fire.

Scott had bought along some Maple Whiskey which is a cross between maple syrup and Canadian whiskey. It's a lot like the Jack Daniels Tennessee Honey but with a Maple Syrup flavour instead of honey. We had a number of swigs of the nectar. Very nice it was too !

There was also a boot party going on next to us. Talk about super-organised. They were cooking burgers on a mini gas barbie. Sadly they didnt have enough to go round but we had a few laughes with them anyway.

After a few more beers and several more swings of the Maple Whiskey, we headed into the stadium to watch Bullet for my Valentine, The Sword, Papa Roach and Clutch to start with. All the bands were great, particularly Clutch. The stadium was rocking. There were 3 stages operating today and everyone was having a great time. I saw no trouble at all which was surprising given it is a hard rock / metal festival.

Three Days Grace played an awesome set, probably my pick of the day. They were followed by Stone Sour and the Saturday headliners, Smashing Pumpkins.

For Smashing Pumpkins, I headed into the mosh pit with cowboy hat and NZ flag at the ready and managed to get within 3 rows of the front. Now I think I may be getting too old for this shit as it was manic in there. I managed to guts it out although I nearly lost my hat and sunglasses a couple of times. Sadly, I did lose the NZ flag which was a piss off.

Battered and bruised, I made my way out of the carnage and bumped into one of the Canadians, Pete. I told him about losing the flag and he suggested checking with the security guys up the front by the stage. I made my way back to the security barrier in front of the stage and, after a brief search, spotted my flag looking slightly weathered amongst the empty beer cups and rubbish on the ground. It must have been thrown around and ended up there as part of the moshing. RESULT - FLAG INTACT !!!

Pete and I headed back to the car and met the rest of the Canadian contingent. We had another couple of beers before Pete, our sober driver, drove us over to another part of the car park where there was a big group in an RV that were partying. We joined them and it was then I realised I was well and truly in redneck USA. We had a fun time and everyone was buzzing after a great day of rock. They were friendly bunch albeit a bit rough around the edges. I avoided getting into any discussions about tightening the gun control laws, legalising gay marriage or saying what a fabulous bloke Obama was :)

My Canadian mates were good enough to give me a lift back to the hotel again and we stopped off for a feed of fried chicken across the road. Scott also stopped for a puke but I assume he was just trying to make room for his chicken :)

I said my goodbyes and we agreed to catch up and do it all again tomorrow.

Top day

Over and out !
