Oh dear the train was full, poor planning as we should have purchased our tickets beforehand.  So we took a 2nd class bus to Hua Hin which we may have been overcharged for and what was supposed to be a 3 Hr drive took 5 Hrs.  The bus went a maximum of about 60km/hr and we think the driver was nervous the bus was going to fall apart. At one point the bus pulled up outside a makeshift mechanics who boarded and measured the gearstick?!

However, it made it in one piece and dropped us off in what turned out to be a very vibrant town, with an international feel.  Many Europeans, so Italian, French, German, restaurants galore.  Overindulged in coffee...ahh...desserts...chocolate mousse and slices of cakes and free pate which resembled dog roll.  Shared a table with a lovely older American couple from Boston for our first plate of fish and chips, made a change from our thai inspired diet.

Still on the lookout for Chinese doughnuts, we think we found the place where food stalls are set up at 6am, but it smelt so bad we only made it a short way before we turned around again Freeing the birds!
Freeing the birds!
.  Our first bit of haggling at the night markets for a few gifts, we are trying a good cop, bad cop routine, but we're still having some trouble in our roles.  Lousia doesn't have a poker face.

After lugging our packs everywhere, and all the sleeping on thai mattresses, we indulged in much needed massages and a couple of pedicures to reward our feet for all their hard yards.  The woman refused to paint J's toenails, much to his dissappointment!

Caught up with Fred and Aui.  Spent one day / night making the most of their resort (AKA) - a moderate improvement over our guesthouse at 6000 Baht / night! Afternoon spent sitting in the sun drinking a few beers / wines on their private roof-top deck, and hanging out in their private pool.

Wonderful French meal at the resort restaurant.  Earlier in the day we had inadvertently over-indulged in pastries and cookies from a bakery as well as sundaes at hagendaas.  By the end of the dinner we could hardly walk. Luckily the resort provided chauffer driven golf-carts to take you back to your villa!

Aui took us to the local Buddhist temple where we took part in various rituals.  This included lighting incense, placing flowers, praying, fortune sticks, placing gold leaf on Buddha statues, being splashed with water by a monk, freeing caged birds and 3 circuits of the temple.

Had very yummy fresh seafood on a few occasions from a couple of the restaurants on the piers.

Hua Hin beach not quite up to the standard of the island beaches so didn't spend much time there. Row upon row of sunbaked obese Europeans on loungers resembling a pod of beached whales.  One rather unattractive woman several decades beyond her prime proceeded to try on a series of bikini tops in front of where we were standing.  J still having nightmares.  May never set foot on a beach again.
