After the retreat we were to head to bangkok, but we thought it wiser to enjoy a more relaxed scene to ease us back into the amount of stimulus this amazing country has to offer. So after a bus to Surat Thani we organised a minivan to Khao Sok national rainforest park.
Art's Riverside Resort had very cute bungalows nestled amongst the bamboo, with gaps in the floorboards big enough for lizards to crawl in, thankfully not big enough for the random drunk people who would lose their way and think that our bungalow was theirs in the wee early hours of the morning. One very drunk Goldilocks was adamant our no. 8 bungalow was her number 2... hmm I wonder who she thought we were and why we were trying to sleep in "her" bed.
During dessert at the resort restaurant we made friends with the local waiter, who was rather stoned
After 2 nights and afternoons watching the wild monkeys at play and J's bit of bungalow decorating with the only source of light, a 20w bulb to get it just right for reading that night, we had to move on...oh well thankfully the Rainforest Resort had a room with more friendly staff and outrageous taste in bed furnishings. Mickey Mouse tapestry style tasseled bedspread advertising 2008 Beijing Olympics. L refused to sleep with it, we flipped the mattress over and around to avoid another punctured lung, perhaps we were missing our wooden and concrete slabs from the retreat.
Speaking of which L bought clippers in Surat and now J is sporting a cleanly shaven head - another step closer to becoming a Buddhist monk! How was she to know clippers come with attachments! Doh!
All motivated from a lot of sitting during the retreat and a chance to see Thailand's forest life, we did an 8km hike in the rainforest at a cracking pace, not a lot of wildlife to be seen but a few more wild monkeys on the path leading back.
At one point Louisa came through a clearing to see Jonathan looking a little concerned asking if there were crocodiles in Thailand, something quite large had hurried into the river upon J's arrival at the riverbank.
Most startling moment was however the sight of a hairy gorilla heading towards us along one of the walking tracks. After a bit of a fright we breathed a sigh of relief as we heard "Afternoon!" in a Scottish accent... A note for hairy chested men please cover up.

Lizzard
. He talked at great length about his herb garden, promised us a tour the following day but seemed not to remember us in the morning.
