First we picked up Carla, Gilberto's friend, with whom we traveled about 5 years ago. She and I are always compatible, talking about women's health issues, our kids, our careers, etc. Her English is perfect, which certainly helps our relationship
. Then we made a stop at Luigi and Nadia's, old friends of Gilberto from the Universita per Adulti where they teach. They greeted us with Prosecco and scrumptious puff pastry hors d'euvres. After a couple of hours there, we went on to the main event - dinner at Bruna and Giovanni's. Bruna is the Administrative Assistant to the President of the Universita per Adulti. Giovanni runs a peach and apricot orchard. She is a great cook and they are wonderful hosts. Her 90 year old "mama" joined us.
I've posted some pictures of our delightful visit with Gilberto and friends.
Lots coming up - a visit from SBU professors, a lecture by Mike, and more visitors. Probably no more major traveling. I'll keep you posted!
Right after we returned from Spring Break, we had a visit from our friend Gilberto. Gilberto is from the region of Emilia-Romagna. He lives in a small town called Castel del Rio. The nearest medium town is Imola and the nearest big city is Bologna. The 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy not withstanding, Gilberto, like most Italians, identifies more with his region that with the "unified" country. However, he loves Umbria, especially Perugia and Assisi. And he loves us, so every year he comes here to Umbria for a visit and this year we went back with him to Emilia Romagna. This is the 4th or 5th year we have visited there and we always like to visit Gilberto's friends, who are now our friends.
