Yesterday, I had the chance to go in the whirlpool for about 10 minutes to soak my weary muscles followed by a swim in a cool water pool and then before going to bed took a hot bath with epson salt followed by a massage and this morning I felt as good and strong as ever. Of course, having the wind at our backs helped but still I felt good the whole ride and could've gone farther if we needed to.
ON the way to our final destination, we went thru the campus of the Miami University of Ohio. A few miles from there, we stopped to have refreshing iced tea with the Vogels at the home of one of our son-in-law's cousins. Thanks Cousin Mike, Lauren, Aunt PAtti and Grandma Vogel who travelled there to visit with us and wish us good fortune. A couple of things, I've been meaning to tell you, but always seems to slip my mind is that ever since Arizona, we have seen an incredible amount of memorials on the side of the road honoring poeple killed in traffic accidents. The second thing is no matter how big or small the town is, there are numerous churches everywhere of all denominations and Sects.
We have passed villages with as few as 125 habitants and even those small villages have at least 3
or 4 churches.
Tomorrow we go on to McArthur and that will be out last stop in Ohio. We look forward to entering West Virginia and the Appalachians that from all accounts should be quite a challenge.
Ok, a few facts. Last night we sat down to plot today's ride. We printed mapquest and the mileage was 106. This morning at 6 am, I entered the address of the hotel we had selected and the GPS said 163 miles. Ok, so what do we do now, I had the Cue sheet, mapquest and the GPS all with big differences in mileage. I then called the next hotel and they gave me directions so I headed out the way they told me. However one of the roads was the interstate and there was a big sign, no bicylces allowed so we backtracked and continued on the country road. I called Kern Vogel and he gave me cousin Mike's address so when I entered that address, the GPS reversed to 106 miles. Thank Goodness!!
It was nice to see Grandma Vogel and the clan and get the support that the guys need. Thanks Kern and LInda for setting this up. Got to the hotel and went to Applebee's for dinner.
One thing I want to tell the ladies, there are shoe stores along the way and the name of the shop is SHoe Show Store. I have not been able to stop in but if I see another one, I will make it a point to stop and investigate. Another thing that passed me on the road today was an old fashioned funeral hearst with a see through glass enclosure.
One more stop in Ohio tomorrow and then again another step closer to Home sweet Home!!
