Had a sleep in this morning. It is so good not to have to rush. We walked to the supermarket to get some breakfast. On the way out of the hostel, we noticed a sign that said Van Gogh worked in this building in 1880-81. We went back to the Grand Place to take photos. Again the weather today was quite average, rain, sunshine, rain was the pattern. The buildings here are very decorated with lots of gold. We then saw one of the earliest shopping arcades in Europe. The shops in here were expensive- as can be expected. Continued walking and came to the cathedral of St Michael. Where I paid money to see the archeological remains underneath, it was a rip off - I saw some old bricks. Walked through the unimpressive gardens to the unimpressive Royal Palace. It started to rain really heavily, so we had some lunch. Our English speaking tour of the Town Hall was excellent. It is a grand building and is still used today for meetings, weddings and whatever else mayor's do. The rooms have old tapestries, paintings and furniture from the 15th century. To end the day we had our last waffle, I am finally waffled out. I did enjoy them, but they're not tasting fantastic anymore- need a new local food!!
