Tomorrow we will be in Brazil and I・m actually quite excited. We did however find out that we will all have to go through customs with our passports on the ship and be fingerprinted and have a photo taken of us before getting off the boat. Apparently Brazil isn・t overly fond of Americans but then again who is? They are actually really concerned for us at this port due to the increase in crime over the last few years for SASers. There were actually fifteen kids from semester at sea who were robbed the first day they got off the ship in Brazil last voyage. Always good to know going into this port that 1/10 or more of us will be robbed. Of course no one has ever been seriously injured in Brazil with SAS and the government of Brazil is taking actions to try and stop some of this crime by doubling their police force in the areas we will be in. It all sounds good to me. The bigger the risk the bigger the reward right? At least that・s what they keep telling us. This last week has been quite fast paced and busy so it actually might be more of a break to be in port. Today we had our first FAB meeting (floating activities board) and we began plans for our anti-valentines day celebration here on the ship. Only three people showed up to the meeting and so we all have quite a bit of a hand in this event. I think we have a pretty good grasp on what we want though and I・m really excited to be planning it. I think we are going to do a spin off of the speed dating and do a speed pals (friendship since the girls outnumber the guys). Then we will have some kind of a snack (drowned your sorrows in Sundays) and follow up with a chick flick in one area and a slasher movie in another. It really is all a spin off of the girls night that we do every year for the girls who aren・t going out. We just aren・t including the facials and pedicures since the guys are also coming. We also are joining together with another group I・m in, students of service, and charging people so that we can raise money for charities through it. I・m actually really excited about all the events and clubs that I・m in and planning and I can・t wait to get back on the ship to plan all of them. (not that I・m not looking forward to Salvador because I am and I・m also planning on coming back to brazil to go on an Amazon trip and visit Rio since I won・t be able to on this visit) All that this trip is really doing is wetting my appetite for travel. I already want to go back to all the ports we are going to without even getting there simply because I don・t have enough time to do everything that I want to.
Ok, so I actually just got through immigration for Brazil and it really wasn・t that bad. All we had to do was go up and show the guy our passport and our visa and then it was over. Yes there were a lot of the port agents running around up there and there were several inspectors but overall they were friendly and not what I was expecting. Hopefully I can get all of these out this morning because I tried to send them out last night but our wireless was down all yesterday on the boat. It was ok though because I got to know some really awesome people while I was trying to connect. Plus it just makes my travelpod a little more up to date for you guysf
