We spent a day in The Hague, which is a quick 50 minutes from Amsterdam by train. Its a cute town, though it seemed a bit sleepy. The Mauritshuis is a really nice building, architecturally, and houses some beautiful paintings from The Golden Era, including some Rembrandts and The Girl With the Pearl Earring (Vermeer). Interestingly, the pearl in the painting comprises only 2 paintbrush strokes, each with a slightly different color. The highlight for me, though, was the Escher In Het Paleis, which houses many of M. C. Escher's works and some 'special attractions' that use slight of hand and perspective. The restaurant Saur on Lange Voorhout was not bad, though service was so-so and the prices seemed a bit overpriced (especially given the Euro's strength).
