Midsommer is celebrated in Sweden every year on the Friday evening between 19 and 25 of June, so this year it was actually one day after summer solstice.
It is a big holiday in Sweden - the day is a public holiday and everyone leaves the cities for country or archipeligo homes.
I traveled to Dalarna, a county that I was told is one of the most traditional in Sweden to experience the Maypole, little frog song & dance, pickled herring, schnapps, traditional Swedish attire and all other things midsommer. I wasn't quite far enough north to get the midnight sun, but it never got completely dark - at midnight I was able to walk around (in the forrest) without a flashlight.
