Spent the weekend in Amsterdam and had an awesome time. Ingrid & I went to meet up with a friend of hers who was working there for a few months. 3 of his friends from the US flew in for the weekend. At the last minute, our fellow Americans in Stockholm, Matt and Erin, decided to come as well.
The city is beautiful - canals every other street and gorgeous buildings. Even though it was cloudy and rainy, I still thought the city was one of the prettiest I've seen. The people were friendly and the city was very active & alive. There were people walking around at all hours of the day/night.
The weekend didn't start off too promising. When Aaron paid the cab driver who took us to dinner, the driver instantly "lost" the 20 Euro bill. We spent 10 minutes as the driver turned on the car's light, got out of the car to look under the seat, opened the glove box, went to the passenger side to look under the sat and on and on
Dinner was at the Supperclub - the original one. There is now one in SF (I've been) and in Bangkok (John had been) and probably other places. DON'T GO to the one in Amsterdam. It was basically an absurdly overpriced dinner that was not nearly enough food, served over 4 hours in a small, white room with loud music. There was no interesting entertainment - it was basically just like eating dinner in a club. The best part was people watching, but even that wasn't enough.
Luckily, Sat was amazing. Woke up to a great breakfast at Hotel Pulitzer (both European & American breakfast choices) and then visited the Van Gogh museum, which was really nice - never realized all the other styles Van Gogh tried out, including the period with heavy Japanese influences. Then meandered back towards the hotel, passing the flower market where we saw the largest roses we've ever seen - I still don't believe they were real. Had dinner at a great Indonesian place (Long Pura) that was tasty & relatively inexpensive. Over dinner, I managed to cause quite the scandal with the guys as they discovered that I had watched the show "Sports Night," but would not reveal who I liked better - Dan or Casey. I'll never tell...
We ended the night/started the morning at Johnny Woo's - the dance floor ceiling was lit with thousands of lights that lit up in pattern with the music. And they played great music - songs I recognized! And not mixed with weird songs.

Finally, when he decided that it must be in the car somewhere, he then had no change (only needed 10 Euros back).Dinner was at the Supperclub - the original one.
