An efficient ride on the spotless MTR then a memorable ride on a local bus around narrow hillside roads got us there. Over 85 feet high, cast in over 200 pieces of bronze and sitting on his lotus leaf throne atop one of the hills of Lantau, the Big Buddha is reached by a climb of 268 stairs. Amazingly, I made it with relative ease. Weeks of training on subway stairs has paid off!
The entrance ticket also included a simple vegetarian lunch of soup, rice and four vegetable dishes. We explored inside the temple of the Po Lin monastery before heading back to HK by an alternative bus and ferry this time and relaxing for a while in our room. H & R also again spent some time enjoying the hotel pool.
