The good fortune with weather continues. Today is sunny with temperature ranging from minus 2 to a high of 5oC. The path around the lake is clear, so photography should be good even if there isn't the chance for that postcard shot of an emerald green lake with snow-capped alps behind.

Not surprisingly, the food at this hotel is excellent but outrageously expensive. A simple CA$16 hamburger for dinner last night actually totalled CA$28 when chips, delivery, 18% built-in gratuity and GST were added! So this morning was the buffet breakfast to negate any need for lunch!

Sitting waiting for a table at the cafe was an elderly lady from yesterday's bus tour. She suggested we make up a table, so I took the plunge...

Nothing like the one from Playschool, of course. This one could talk. And she had seventy years of her life to tell me about.
In detail.
In between organizing the waiter...

"Espresso, dollop of whipped cream on top."
"Glass of water, two ice cubes."
"Two separate bills, please."
"I shouldn't have been charged for this second coffee."
She had already changed rooms here once and was composing a letter to Rocky Mountaineer complaining about allocations to buses for transfers from the station. Getting the idea?

Admittedly, she also had many years of stories to tell me from fleeing Dresden, living in Northern England, meeting her American husband and moving to Kentucky, widowed at thirty and moving to Oregan and travelling extensively ever since. Driving around Europe and the UK, skiing around the world, canoeing in the Yukon...

And I'm bound to hear more. She's on the train to Toronto too...
