D-Day... Departure, drag, delight.

We leave the hotel and easily negotiate the S-bahn to Frankfurt Flughafen station. It is a long series of escalators, passageways, a skytrain, halls and shops to just change terminals. Frankfurt Airport is spread over a vast area with two large terminals, a six lane freeway through it's midst and four main runways. It is the third busiest in Europe after Heathrow and Paris.

Jan's flight leaves two hours before CX288 at 13.55 and I drag myself around the shops and use the free allocation of web time available to me until departure.
I am the first at the gate where l score the full security seach, right down to x-raying my leather/rubber shoes separately... although just taking them off inside a plane these days would be enough of a danger!

The eleven hour flight goes smoothly. I eat sweet and sour pork somewhere north of the Black Sea and doze for an hour or so. I watch a full moon track across the sky, reflecting in rivers north of the Himalayas. And always, there are lights in towns below, regardless of their remoteness.

My toes dance for 90 minutes while l watch Robbie Williams captivate an enormous stadium of devotees. I add that one to my bucket list... to see a major act in an adrenaline-packed stadium somewhere overseas.

Breakfast arrives somewhere over China before a three hour transit in Hong Kong. Thank goodness for iPads and free internet.

Nine hours later, l am home to a cold Melbourne night.

And despite the adventures of the past weeks, I'm very glad to be reunited with my four boys, my own bed and my mocassins!
But I still haven't traced Jack de Crow's route...
