It is 16.58 when the London-bound Eurostar pulls out of Gare de Nord, spot on time. It marks the end of a very frustrating day and weekend in Paris.

The wet weather has dulled the whole adventure and the pace of exploration has been way too slow for me. There's no scarf that yells "Buy me!" I cannot find inspiration for gifts for others.
I cannot bring myself to buy that second smaller suitcase. Our house could do with one smaller case and we do have a two case allowance on our premium tickets. But this trip's one is a tad too large and heavy already.

The place with those gorgeous red shoes that I spotted yesterday couldn't be found this morning when the shops reopened. It's a reminder that I should have used technology for that purpose too and snapped the street name and number on my phone.

In fact, despite vowing that I would treat myself to some French ballet flats, no others jumped out at me like that first pair. Not even over two entire floors of shoes in Galleries Lafayette OR Printemps! Misery.

The morning passes with fruitless wandering. There's not even anything worth photographing. Three final days in London HAVE to offer an improvement. Tonight we change location to Earl's Court, to a small hotel that rates highly with Booking.com reviewers. Earl's Court has presumably moved on since Barry Mackenzie's era and the anticipation keeps me going today.

So I watch the French countryside once again. The crops of six months ago have been harvested and the fields ploughed and resown. The Tour de France villages with their central church spires whip past en route back to London.

AND we're in the most remote carriage again!
