And it certainly didn't have the fine suspension of it's continental counterparts.
So we lurch and roll overnight with numerous stops, eventually making it into London Euston at 9am... not bright eyed or bushy tailed!
We fill the morning with a visit to the nearby British Library. It's Treasures Room houses many er, treasures, the piece to resistance being the Magna Carta.
It was being 'rested'...
Other pieces included ancient Shakespeare, musical and religious manuscripts through to some of the Beatles original scrawlings of lyrics.
The 3.31pm Eurostar pulls out of St. Pancras station right on time and two and a half hours later, we are in Paris! The transfer from Gare de Nord to our hotel by metro proves a challenge for G-ma with the killer combination of stairs and suitcases (what HAS she got packed in that thing?) Ian and l work a series of tag teams to get cases up and stairs and on and off trains.
We make it to Hotel Excelsior though and are thrilled to find out triple rooms is not too miniscule AND has a balcony and view to the Paris Opera House!
There are cafes and bistros up and down our street (just around the corner from Gallerie Lafayette) so it's an easy dinner tonight... Pasta at the cafe downstairs, then I'm in bed by 9pm English time. Oh brother, I'm spent! And so was he. And G-ma...
Should have flown.
