Our cosy little room already has it's bunks made up and after exploring the train as far as the restaurant and bar, we retire for the night. The train stops, starts and winds it's way around the Spanish countryside, north via Linare to collect some more carriages. Around 3am we shunt and sleep is easier as l am now not being rolled out of bed! This train does not have the suspension of an AVE or AVANT!
Sunlight wakes us around 7am - with blue skies and a view of the Mediterranean right beside the tracks
And then we are in the depths of Barcelona's underground!
One Metro ride lands us at our accommodation for the next four nights - Hostal Khronos. We are in a smarter part of town near The Diagonal... the main boulevard that slices through Barcelona, well, diagonally!
The place is stylish and our room is the biggest yet. And the bathroom is comparatively ENORMOUS! Before long, it is strung with the pegless clothesline then we head to visit Antonio Gaudi's two most famous residences prior to commencing the Sagrada Familia.
Casa Batlo and Casa Mila are both nearby in The Diagonal and are discernible if not by their colourful exteriors then by the queues...
Happily, we have bought tourist passes and skip straight in!
These two houses are crazy, colourful buildings. We start on the roofs with their warrior chimneys and work down. Some rooms are furnished with Gaudi furniture including door knobs and lights. Photos are the better option here.
Although fast food reappears in the streets of BCN (after a definite absence in Seville and Granada) our area is heavily populated with tapas bars.
And with only four hours serious sleep the night before, it's a quick bite across the road and into bed.
