After many many months of hard work :0) and hermiting in London it was time to board yet another plane to an unknown land of bier, wurst, high socks, high shorts and suspenders.... oooo yeah and towering alps. To live in a snow covered village for a ski season has always been one of my life goals and I was finally staring out my bedroom window to frosty flakes settling on pitched roofs. To really put the icing on the cake though I was doing it with 4 of my best mates from home.
So a month into my stay and I can seriously say I don't want to leave. The view from every angle is stunning and I could seriously spend a few years here taking photos. Of course though there is the disappointing fact that I chose to come to Austria in one of the hottest winters seen in Europe. There has still been plenty of snow to ride but it would have been nice to have dug my way out the front door a few times.
I can now also officially say I have enjoyed a white Christmas. We didn't get any snow on the big day but I think I preferred the perfect warm blue sky day we did receive. The boys and I exchanged a few little pressies then headed up the mountain for a few hours of boarding in the sun. The warm weather soon initiated many cold beers in the sun at the Ice Bar on the mountain. Somehow we forgot to eat anything substantial during the day and we found ourselves in the early hours of Boxing Day stumbling up the ski run to our apartment still carrying our boards. Having missed xmas dinner there was no better time to get into some drunken ham eating. The perfect ending to a top day.
New Years with the boys was a blast definitely one of the best NY's I've had. Usually they are very over hyped and a waste of perfect sleeping hours but this year was different. The night started with a few quiet beers and many noisy bottle rockets being shot from our top floor balcony. The rockets definitely had a homing device for the chalet across the road that's for sure check out the photos. The streets and bars of Ischgl were overflowing with drunken Germans, Italians, Austrians and a few wobbly Aussies. I drank more alcohol than I thought was physically possible and spent the remaining hours of the night speaking broken Deutsch to randoms. So still a little while left and hopefully some more snowfalls to spice things up. Another of my good friends arrives from London in a few days just in time for Australia day this Friday. We will hopefully be playing some snow cricket at 2000 meters but we may not make it past the many alluring bars on the way to the gondola. Stayed tuned for some photos.
Well I better go lay down for a few hours as its been a very tough day. Got up at 9, rode the mountain for a few hours, came home for a warm lunch and some MTV and now chilling with some tunes and a cold beverage. It's a hard life that's for sure. JB More thumbnails ...
