The land slowly became more and more familiar as we continued to ease into the southeast and it wasn't long before the green fields of Texas gave way to the thick forests of pine and hardwoods that we were used to. According to our GPS we would be reaching Little Rock around 7:15 which would give us plenty of time to hang out with Joel and have a nice dinner. Each stop we made also reminded us of the opressive heat and humidity that is the hallmark of southern summers. Our travels had given us snow-capped peaks, snowy mornings, gusty desert winds, chilly pacific breezes, cool alpine nights, and bright 110 degree desert sun, but there is nothing to compare to the stifling thick air of the south
We arrived at Joel's house right on time and freshened up before having a few drinks and a good meal of steak, shrimp, and salad. After dinner we relaxed and were grateful to have family to treat us to a little taste of home. I stayed up a little too late sitting out on the deck and talking to Joel as Hannah watched a movie, and it felt good to just chill. We needed this time more than we realized and the hospitality was appreciated. For the first time since we had left two weeks ago home was really in our sights. . .
