A 7am flight out of Mexico City to LA with the requirement of turning up about 2 and a half hours before hand meant that sleep the night before was not really a possibility.

Upon arriving to LAX I found that there was nowhere to store my bags for 12 hours before I needed to check in for my flight back to Brisbane. Citing security reasons for not having onsite luggage storage, I was handed a form with ads for some offsite luggage storage firms and began getting quotes. The minimum they wanted was around $40-$50 which pretty much amounts to robbery. After some quick thinking I checked out local accommodation options and figured I could get a room at a nearby hostel for significantly less.

No longer burdened by my over packed bag (I really did end up with waaay too many clothes after New York) I set off to head to downtown. Not really knowing what was there, or even where it was, I jumped on a bus claiming it went there at some point on its route. An hour and a half later I got off at Union station and had bit of a walk around downtown LA.

There's some impressive buildings, a good mix of art deco some very modern stuff - Union Station itself is spectacular. I checked out MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art) which had a cool exhibit on fashion and architecture. That pretty much took up the rest of my day, so I headed back to LAX to check-in for the flight.

It was pretty much a mosh pit when I arrived back at about 8 to check-in, 4 hours early, for my flight back. I then learned that check-in had been open since 4.30. I then found out why. They were individually X-raying every checked bag, and making you wait around while they did it in case they wanted you to open it.
