Mendoza
Entry 10 of 12 | show all | print this entry |
Next destination was Mendoza - in order to climb a part of the Aconcagua, the largest mountain in the Americas. Mendoza is a great city, with many wineries near it. Since it's on the "gringo trail" to visit the wineries, so did I... you go on bicycle, listen to some short lecture from a cute girl, drink a few glasses as "tasting" and continue to the next winery, and so on - by passing a few wineries you begin to peddle in zigzag... After spending time in Mendoza - the hostel has pool, and it's dry and hot outside, just perfect for a swim or pool parties - I've met with a group for climbing to the Aconcagua: Arnon (who was working in Tiltan the same time I was working there) and two more girls, Rona and Karen. This is not much trek. You get into the park, and start climbing. Then you sleep at the camp (I've got bad case of altitude sickness: headache, lack of apetite, nausea, etc). The next day you climb some more, watch the south face of this great moutain (your height: 4300m. the peak's height: 6962m), and then descent. On the way back, you get a glimpse of the Puente del Inca, a natural bridge.
After returning from the Aconcagua, we need some R&R in Mendoza. With an amazing coincidence, Purim happens the same night as Mendoza's wine festival, the celebration of the beginning of the grape harvest, so we did the same - watching their version of the ADLOYADA and getting drunk :)
