We left for Yosemite National Park before sunrise, it's about a 3 hour drive from Cupertino. We slept most of the way. Yosemite's natural beauty can be found in the things big and small, from towering granite cliffs and giant sequoias to diminutive wildflowers. Our first stop was at the Tuolumne Grove of Giant Sequoias where we hiked for about 2 miles hike. Sequoia trees can live up to 2 200 years and their trunks can reach up to 25 feet thick. We were lucky enough to see a little bear scrounging around for food along the way. For lunch we stopped at White Wolf, it's a camping site. Campers have to keep all food in metal bins to not attract wild animals and to stop the bears eating their food.
Next we visited Olmsted Point, the glacial landscape is incredible. The reflection from the water and heat was incredible, we took time to cool off paddling in the water at Tenaya Lake. The crystal clear water, with the mountains in the distance was so inviting. Before reaching the Glacier Point we stopped at the Bridalveil Falls Creek. It's questioned how the great cliffs came to be. American Indians tell of a woman and her husband who argued and fought. This displeased the spirits and changed then into stone, Half Dome and North Dome, forever to face each other across the valley. Our last stop was to see the views at Tunnel View.
We spent the night at the Yosemite View Village which was situated along side a river. The motel room was very clean and spacious. We spent some time relaxing in the whirlpool, it was very peaceful and relaxing after a day out in the sun. Pizza for dinner... oh yes.
