Bratislava was only an hour from Vienna, therefore the train is was quick - As I got in, my first impression of Bratislava is probably as one might assume, quite dirty, ugly and ravaged - not a welcoming train station to say the least. However I got to my hostel with no worries, dropped my luggage off in my room and headed out to enjoy the day light that rest on Slovakia. The main attraction of Bratislava is their old town, any where out of the realms of old town and you would reach the suburban sprawl of communist living blocks, quite an ugly country thanks to communism. Old town however is magnificent, and that is what I will show you!
While I was walking around I couldn't help but to be swept off my feet with all the gorgeous women that is apparent in the genes of Slovaks, sight seeing has been redefined. The streets are very similar to any European old town - brick roads and colorful architecture, perhaps some gates and walls surrounding the center, sure enough it had all of those and some random metal sculptures in streets and parks to boot! There was several glimpses that remind me of the movie Hostel, that is so raved about in the states refueling my Euro-trip
That evening at the hostel, I was enjoying my time to catch up on the best television series of all time, Lost. I fortunately am putting these cyber tactics to use and found a way to nab the current episodes to my pc while abroad! While watching a series, this Brazilian girl grabs a seat next to me on the couch - after 5 minutes being zoned in my show on the laptop I noticed she is reading the lips of the characters, as I had my headphones in. The poor girl has been missing all of the new episodes of lost due to international travel! I know... I know... a tragedy. The rest of the evening we were sipping red wine and watching all of this series episodes for the rest of the night, sharing my ear buds - we Lost fanatics must have looked ridiculous!
The weather over Bratislava was beautiful, the next day I headed out to the castle on the hill
When I was in Budapest I met a fellow traveler who is teaching English in Slovakia, he told me about the alps on the boarder of Slovakia and Poland and how you can trek and climb to the summit and stay in the foothills 2,000 meters above sea level - being as crazy as I am - I spent the my free time here trying to figure how I am going to make this happen for me in the next couple of days. The following morning I have several of transfer trains to the middle of Slovakia toward the Poland boarder to find accommodations before I begin my several day trek to into the 'High Tatras'.

Bratislava
. If you weren't aware, Hostel took place in Bratislava - the movie nailed the scenery pretty good, and captured the backpackers lifestyle well and defiantly was exact on all the beautiful women it portrays however I did find any middle aged murders out for my throat (thankfully). At sunset I walked a newly addition bridge in the past decade linking old town to the communist block, modern Bratislava. What is unique about this bridge is that it looks oddly similar to a flying saucer on top where the view tower is located. Also the bridge provides and excellent view of the city castle on the hill top. One thing about Slovakia is that there are beautiful castles just littered all over the country side, waiting to be discovered by curious travelers - time permitting, I would indeed seek them out. Bratislava
. The castle offered an amazing view of the rooftops of old town and the Danube river (yep, the same river that I took photos of in Turkey). The castle looked spectacular on the outside and unfortunately all national museums in Europe are closed on Mondays, therefore I was unable to see the interior. Still having much of the day left, I browsed many of the local stores for nothing at all and found several affordable Kebabs to put my mandible around and stumbled upon a, well, blue church (see photo). With all of my street walking I found a jazz club that had live jazz this evening. As I was preparing to go from my hostel, I invited my dorm mate and we spent the rest of the evening at an underground jazz club!
