I arrived in Split along the coast very early in the morning. In fact I was going to head even further south into the country that can only be accessed by bus - there-in lies a town called Dubrovnik, where old roman castles and ruins lay still un- ravished by the times. The city walls of the town you can walk atop with a great top down view of the historic city and the sea. I looked into bus prices to stay just one day down there but it was equivalent to 50 dollars there and 50 dollars returning and then some for accommodation - at this point of my travels, it wasn't worth the money to spend one night there even when I cane enjoy swimming in the beaches because of the season. So I checked my bags in at that train station for the day and went out to discover Split.

The day was extremely warm, I was down to my t-shirt by mid day. I started by walking along side the port into the old Palace walls of split. Here within the old palace walls are many shops, cafes, restaurants, and apartments where people live. Here there are no traffic and all of the architecture is just spectacular to get lost in! I picked up a morning espresso to start my day right Split

. After a while of walking the streets, I walk along the coast line by the marina to check out some sailboats and shops, I am getting the itch to go sailing. After grabbing some lunch in the park I headed up to a very large forested park on a hill behind me in hopes it will offer me some great views of the sea and of Split. During my hikes I made it to the highest point of the hill which offered spectacular views of the seaside and coast lines of Croatia. Further along on my hike I stumbled by a zoo atop the hill, there was no one at the zoo, but I wanted to gander at the wildlife that they have in Europe. I paid the entry to get in and walked the zoo for some time, typical to any other zoo, but they did have baboons, in which I spent the duration of my privacy with mimicking one another for a while, the monkey was very good at this game using facial expression!

I hiked back down to the old city again, although I wanted to see what life was like for Croatians outside of the touristy spots and walked into the newer developments, that is to say, developed in the last one hundred years. The actual city is a pretty dirty and gloomy place, while crossing a deserted bridge I actually saw a man shooting up heroin in his arm, we locked eyes and I steadfastly made my way back to the comforts of old town yet again. Before sunset I bought a Cuban cigar and watched the sunset over the sea from the pier. After sunset I walked back into the palace to find an internet connection in hope of this time catching up on my blogs, I persuaded the gentlemen to allow me into his internet café with a very calming atmosphere to allow me to chill on a couch and type away free of charge Split

. The moment I walked in, a gorgeous girl looks at me with this very warm smile and asked what state I was from. I was just as excited to see her as she was to see me, we went back and forth in witty banter and the formalities of getting to know one another, and just a bit after I came into the shop, her, her friend and I all went out to grab a bite to eat. After eating her friend made an obvious excuse to let us be in each others presence for the duration of the evening and Katherine and I set out for beers for the rest of the evening. Katherine is from Colorado, an outdoor enthusiast much like myself and is living in Croatia to play volleyball professionally. It is here in Europe where you can play sports after college and get paid for playing unlike in the states where you have to submit to a major league. Her and I went from bar to bar sharing stories of traveling and they types of people we are categorized as, always pressing our limits in hopes to one day be bound by none. Seems as though time had stopped in her presence, the night went by so very fast with her that I looked at the clock and my train was leaving in 5minutes - I gave her a great big hug, chugged my beer and ran to the station with my house on my back. Back to life in constant motion.
